Factors That Reduce The Lifetime Of Your Electronics

Beleive it or not, all your electronics lifetime has a lifetime. Your consumer electronics is supposed to fail at sometime and this is what keeps the electronic companies in business. But the lifetime should not be too short for consumers to say that a particular brand produces inferior goods. The time should be just right to keep the businessman and the consumer happy. But that’s if the consumer keeps his/her devices in a conducive environment. Ever wondered why those TV screens in Public Vehicles like Matatus dont last? Its because of the first reason:-

Vibration

Excessive vibrations cause open circuits (no connection) inside the electronics components. By now you know someone or you your self have tried fixing either your TV by hitting it. The problem is usually an open circuit. But this usually does not pose a big problem because most consumer electronics are usually placed in one stable place with no or very little movement. I would suggest that you keep speakers with a lot of vibration on the floor or wall but not on the furniture housing your other electronic devices like DVD players.

Dust

Dust is one of the main reasons Electronics fail early because dust is found everywhere and removing it from inside is not possible for a lot of people. The only way to prevent dust is to cover your electronics only when you are not using them. If you live in a very dusty area take your electronics (even if its working) to a qualified technician for cleaning and servicing.

Cockroaches

Roaches don’t care how many months you saved to buy that one Electronic gadget you prize the most. They will make a habitat of your TV, DVD Player or decoder. Its the safest place to live and lay their eggs plus you wouldn’t dare spray anything inside your electronics. Cockroaches eggs and excrement which is usually wet causes short circuits inside electronics. Remember the gecko in TV story, it can happen with big roaches too, I have seen it. Avoid keeping utensils especially dirty ones near your Electronics to avoid roaches hiding in your electronics.

Here is how to get rid of cockroaches inside electronics.

Humidity

Water particles in the air as a result of rain or man made can also affect electronic especially after its affected by dust. Thats because dust particles become moist and we all know that water being a conductor of electricity will cause short circuits. And lastly

Corrosion

Coastal areas are the worst when it comes to corrosion because of the salty water evaporating from the ocean being carried inland. That’s why guys at the coast replace their satellite dishes every now and then due to the high rate metal turning to rust. The same happens inside electronic components leads leading to higher than normal failure rates for electronics at the coast. There is nothing you can do about preventing corrosion except servicing the unit regularly. But if you live inland, corrosion should not worry you.
