The Tecno Camon 19 Premier is a big 6.7 Inch/170mm AMOLED Full HD+ smartphone with 120Hz refresh rate. This phone is packed with other big features for a premium performance device. This includes an actual gimbal camera and 60X zoom lens. I have already done a camera review so in this article I will mostly write about the performance aspect.

The CPU inside this phone is a Helio G96 processor which is a 2.05 GHz octa-core processor. When it comes to memory the Camon 18 Premier comes with 8GB RAM and 256GB internal storage. I have been using this smartphone for a few weeks now and here is my performance review that that is based on some gaming too. This is because the best way to test a phones performance is by playing heavy games.

120Hz AMOLED Screen

This is the second device this year to get an AMOLED after the Tecno Phantom X. An AMOLED screen delivers exceptionally good colours and switches off parts of the screen in dark scenes. The result is a true black colour. I have included a special AMOLED section from 00:48 in the video below to distinguish between a normal LCD screen and the Camon 18’s AMOLED screen.

The screen resolution is also big coming in at 1080X2400 which makes it a Full HD+ device. But the best part is the 120Hz refresh rate. This high refresh rate is good for smoother animations and extremely important while playing fast paced games.

Gaming

A high refresh rate makes for noticeably smoother animations but may reduce battery life. Some apps may not support 120Hz display.

Sensors

The gyroscope sensor is one of the sensors sought out for in a gaming device. The gyroscope translates the phones physical movement into ag games input. For example, I can physically move the phone to align a scope so that I can take a shot. A good example of this is minute 11:17 of my gaming vide above.

Away from gaming, the step detector and step counter sensors can enable the sports health assistant app keep track of your physical exercises.

Battery & Charging

Tecno is embracing the USB Type C port and the Camon 18 Premier is no exception. This phone has a 4750mAh battery and comes with a 33 Watt Fast Charger.

I did a charging experiment to see how fast I could charge this device from no charge at all to 100% battery capacity. Here is the video.

In the first five minutes the phone was already up tp 12% and it had hit 38% in only 20minutes. These are very encouraging results when viewed from a gamers perspective. Just taking a little break will ensure you have enough power for your next game.

Here are my full results

  • 5 Min – 12%
  • 10 Min – 18%
  • 20 Min – 38%
  • 30 Min – 53%
  • 40 Min – 69%
  • 50 Min – 84%
  • 1Hr – 95%
  • 1Hr 6 Min – 98%
  • 1Hr 10 Min- 100%

Honourable Mentions

There are a few features that I found very useful in the Tecno Camon 18 Premier that I just had to mention here. First we have the Video Assistant feature that prevent notifications from disturbing your vide thus improving the viewing experience. This can be set up to work with other apps too.

The second feature that I loved is the Kids Mode. This can be activated just before handing over the phone to a child. There are a lot of settings inside here to protect children like selecting the apps, setting a single use time as well as data usage. Data is even provided as to the commonly used apps and how long they were used. T me tat is a very nice and useful HiOS feature.

Conclusion

Good specs, premium performance and with big storage capacity. If you want a camera centric device that also performs very well while gaming, then the Tecno Camon 18 Premier is the Phone for you.
