Are you stuck and you don’t know what AV connector attaches to which Port? You only have 3 cables, but the TV has 5 ports and its very confusing. I blame the TV manufacturers for this confusion.
Today I will end the confusion that is the five ports at the back of your TV. It doesn’t matter the brand. You could have a Samsung, Sony, LG, Panasonic, Sharp, TCL or even Hisense. The brand doesn’t matter. The solution is just the same.
I will show you how to connect your DVD player or decoder in the video below.
Yellow
Let’s start with the yellow cable. Yellow or Y or V is for video. Connect the Yellow cable to the Yellow Port on your DVD Player, VCR or video game console. At the back of the TV, you’re going to match Yellow or Y to V or video. The port might be Green/Yellow or just green.
Red
Next, we have Red. Red is for right audio. Connect Red to R. Just match it to the red port with R written on it at the back of the TV. Note that it’s not the red port labeled Pb. It’s usually the one at the bottom or furthest from the yellow port.
White
And lastly, we have white which is for left audio. Connect White to L and match it to the white port at the back of the TV.
So, the trick is connecting your yellow or video skip the other two ports Pb and Pr and then connect your audio cables at the bottom.
After this you will take your remote control and look for the source or input button and select the correct input which is labelled at the back. For example, it could be AV1 or AV2.
Component Input
So, what’s up with the blue and red connectors that we skipped? Well, those belong to another input known as the component input and together with the Green Port you can have a HD signal via analog cables.
And I have a separate video about how to connect component over below.
Backward Compatibility
And lastly why do TVs still have these AV analog inputs? Well, it’s because of backward compatibility and this enables you to connect your video game console, your VCR, your DVD player or your decoder to your modern TV.
